Abstract

The cultural resource survey was conducted along a proposed extension of Long Creek Road (FS251), near Hickory Flats Cemetery, in Eastern Fannin County, Georgia. This road is in Compartment 656 of the Toccoa Ranger District, Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests. The proposed extension will cross a portion of the Appalachian Trail just as it leaves the vicinity of the Hickory Flats Cemetery and meeting structure. The field survey was conducted on January 14, 1980, by the author, assisted by a YACC enrollee, David Cantrell, at the request of Randy Smith, Forester of the Chestatee Ranger District, Dahlonega., The road center line had been surveyed and staked by Johnny Cullars, Civil Engineering Aid, some weeks before. Figures 1 and 2 locate the survey area.
