Abstract

On February 17 and 19, 1981 archaeological test excavations were conducted for a proposed post office carrier facility located south of Rawson Street, east of Pryor Street, and west of Central Avenue in downtown Atlanta. This project was conducted under authorized agreement between the Earth Systems Division of Soil Systems, Inc. and the United States Postal Service. The archaeological testing followed recommendations based on an intensive literature search and on an archaeological pedestrian survey of the area. Using a backhoe, three test trenches were excavated. One of the test trenches contained evidence of a turn of the century, residential neighborhood. Based on the results of that testing, we recommend that cultural resources clearance be granted.
