Cultural Resources Survey of Little Sand Mountain Land Exchange, Chattooga County, Georgia

Abstract

This cultural resources survey was conducted on 1,006 acres of property on the proposed Little Sand Mountain land exchange. This parcel involves tracts 3127a, 3131, 3009b and 3102 which include either entirely or partially, Land Lots 76, 105, 106, Ill, 112, 142, 143, 145, 146, and 147, of District 25, Section 3 of Chattooga County. It is in Compartment 931 of the Armuchee Ranger District, Chattahoochee National Forest. The property is 3 miles southwest of Subligna, Georgia and approximately 13 miles northeast of Summerville, the county seat. The property is bordered by Haywood Valley Road on the east and Subligna Road on the west. It is accessible by a public road which passes through the southern lowland and a Forest Service Road. Within the property one early road from the turn of the century and several logging roads still remain passable on foot. Figures 1 and 2 locate the property.

The field survey required ten working days from August 19 to September 3, 1980. The author were assisted by YACC enrollees Jeff Daniels, David Derryberry and Debbie Moore-Scoggins of the Armuchee Ranger District's Villanow Work Center.
