Abstract

On August 21 and 22, 1982, Robert S. Webb, archeological consultant for Claude Terry & Associates, Inc. (CTA) conducted a 100 percent coverage cultural resource pedestrian survey of the proposed Oglethorpe Power Corporation Double Cabins-Locust Grove transmission line corridor in Henry and Spalding Counties, Georgia. A review of the site files at the University of Georgia in Athens revealed that no prehistoric or historic resources have been previously recorded within the impact zone. Surface survey and subsurface shovel testing revealed three sites: two prehistoric surface scatters (124.1-1, 124.1-3) and a prehistoric subsurface scatter (124.1-2). Four isolated finds were also recovered. Sites 124.1-1 and 124.1-3 were determined to be heavily disturbed and therefore warranting no further work. However, the significance of Site 124.1-2 could not be determined during the survey and was tested by Webb on September 11, 1982. No intact remains were discovered. Based on these findings CTA recommends full cultural clearance for the proposed transmission line.
