Abstract

Project 476-20014 was designed to provide an archaeological and ecological survey of an 8.3 mile proposed transmission line for the Oglethorpe Power Company (Figure 1-1). The proposed line runs southeast from Macedonia Methodist Church, crosses the Chattahoochee just below its junction with the Soque, and terminates at the substation south of Midway.

The archaeological survey detailed in this report was carried out in two phases. The first, background research, was carried out at the state site files in Athens, Georgia. on March 2, 1982. The field work. was conducted from March 3 to 5, 1982 by Linda Stoutenburg as archaeological technician. and Rob Jacobs, forest ecologist. Archaeological techniques included intensive visual survey, shovel cuts and auger borings.

The survey located one isolated find. Due to the highly disturbed nature of the area. no archaeological associations are possible. The isolated find was recommended for clearance.
