Abstract

Cultural resources surveys were conducted on the Chattooga Ranger District Chattahoochee National Forest in Habersham, Stephens, White and Banks counties in northeast Georgia. They were done prior to FS road construction, timber sales# the opening of an off-roads vehicle recreation area, land exchanges, wildlife openings, and related activities. These were project-specific surveys covering 2,334 acres, in mostly very rugged terrain. Five historic sites and two prehistoric sites were recorded, all disturbed by post-occupational activities, so that only one of the house sites warranted further protection and testing.
