Abstract

The intensive cultural resources survey of Oglethorpe Power Corporation's proposed 2.0 ha (4.9 ac) Smarr substation tract and 4.0 km (2.5 mi) of 30.5 m (100 ft) width transmission line right-of-way discovered one archeological site, 9Mo482. The project area is located in Monroe County, in the central Georgia Piedmont. This site is a relatively sparse prehistoric lithic and ceramic scatter that has been heavily disturbed by modern land use practices. 9Mo482 is recommended ineligible for the National Register of Historic Places because of its poor integrity. There are no standing structures within the view shed of the proposed transmission line or substation. It is the opinion of the Principal Investigator that the proposed project will have no impact upon any significant cultural resources.
