Abstract

The Oconee Ranger District of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests is considering various options for reconstructing and/or expanding the Lake Sinclair Recreation Area in Putnam County. The area of potential effect (APE) for the present project consists of those areas for which ground-disturbing activities associated with the various options could potentially occur. The total area included within the APE is 116 acres, with 16 acres having been surveyed in 2007 (Wettstaed 2008) and 100 acres surveyed by the present project. An intensive survey of the APE for this project recorded one site with both historic and prehistoric components. This site is considered to be ineligible for the National Register of Historic Places. As a result, any work at the Lake Sinclair recreation Area will have no effect on historic properties and it is recommended that the project be allowed to proceed.
