Abstract

An intensive archeological survey of a portion of the US Army's Ranger Training Facility' Camp Frank D. Merrill was conducted. Two prehistoric archeological sites (one Woodland and one Middle Archaic) were found in an area where the Army proposes to construct six new planning bays. Both sites have been disturbed by cultivation and erosion to the point that they are of only limited use in understanding the prehistory of northern Georgia. It is my professional opinion that neither site is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places and that there will be no effect to significant historic properties if the bays are built as planned.
