Abstract

This report documents the results of the Phase I cultural resources survey conducted on Fort McPherson military reservation in Fulton County, Georgia. This survey was conducted in order to identify archaeological and historic sites within the project area which may be considered eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The project area is located in the southwestern corner of Fort McPherson; bounded on the south by Route 166 and on the east by the CSX Transportation railroad tracks. One historic site of unknown significance was identified in the central portion of the project area. The Phase I cultural resources survey was conducted by Garrow & Associates, Inc. on May 12,1993. The survey methods employed during the field reconnaissance consisted of a combined surface inspection and subsurface shovel testing program. In one portion of the project area, intact soil deposits associated with cement wall configurations (likely barracks) were identified. This area, called site #1, is recommended for further archaeological investigation prior to development of the property.
