Abstract

During August and September 1993, cultural resource surveys were conducted in portions of Compartments 605, 623, 628, 629, 639, 640, 679 and 687 on the Toccoa Ranger District, in portions of Tannin and Gilmer Counties, Georgia. A total of 305 acres of mountainous terrain was surveyed by reconnaissance level survey for timber sales and southern pine beetles (SPB) infestation areas. Eleven previously unknown cultural resources were located and four were determined potentially eligible for the National Register. Avoidance is recommended for the potentially eligible sites, and beyond these five sites, the proposed timber sale will have no effect on any significant cultural resources.
