Abstract

The results of a small scale cultural resource survey in the Chattahoochee National Forest of North Georgia are presented. The project area consisted of two locations along Mill Creek in Murray county where the potential for hydroelectric sites is under study by Oglethorpe Power Corporation. Three prehistoric archeological sites were found that are considered to be potentially eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The sites were flagged and field representatives of Oglethorpe Power and their contractor, Law Engineering, were advised to avoid the sites. The study concludes that the Mill Creek Valley has the potential for a relatively high density of prehistoric archeological sites.
