Abstract

In April, May, and June 1995, a cultural resources survey was conducted on approximately 110 acres of the Oconee National Forest in Greene and Jones Counties, Georgia. The survey was conducted prior to timber harvesting activities in Compartments 130, and University of Georgia Forestry School activities in Compartment 170 on the Oconee District. Three new archaeological sites were identified and one previously recorded site was reinvestigated. Two sites are considered potentially eligible to the National Register of Historic Places (GA08191, GA081609), and two sites are considered ineligible (GA08-1607, GA08-1608). In addition, one ineligible isolated find was recorded. The two potentially eligible sites will be protected in place by avoidance. This project will have no effect on the potentially eligible sites in the project area.
