Abstract

This report presents a preservation plan for the management of Fort Gordon's present and future cultural resources needs. An inventory of the base's archaeological sites and its historic buildings is given along with contextual information that provides the reader/user with a sense of the broad prehistoric and historic patterns that developed at Fort Gordon. A discussion of the military mission, current land use and impacts to cultural resources likely to occur at Fort Gordon is offered. Investigative procedures are outlined to identify and protect cultural resources and the evaluation criteria of these resources is defined. A treatment plan is developed for Fort Gordon's potentially eligible resources for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places and for the base's architectural record. Finally, recommendations are made concerning future cultural resource studies at Fort Gordon that will address current data gaps.
