Abstract

R.S. Webb & Associates conducted evaluative testing excavations at Site 9FO307 located in the Silver Creek development site. The Silver Creek development site is located 5.0 miles southeast of Cumming, Georgia in Forsyth County. Site 9FO307 was detected during a cultural resources survey of the Phase I/II/III Silver Creek development site conducted by R.S. Webb & Associates (Gantt and Webb 1996b). The site consists of a late 19th to early 20th century house complex with a house pad, discard midden, well and other features associated with a small rural domestic complex. Testing was recommended to determine if the site retains important archeological information on rural farming complex structure, subsistence habits and other research considerations. Testing confirmed that Site 9FO307 is a late 19th to early 20th century house site complex with a minor prehistoric component; however, the prehistoric, late 19th and early 20th century archeological deposits are mixed, subsistence remains are lacking and there is no indication that prominent individuals occupied the house or important historical events took place in the site vicinity. There is little likelihood that relevant research issues can be addressed through additional work at this site. Therefore, Site 9FO307 is considered ineligible for the National Register and no additional work is advised.
