Additional Heritage Resources Survey for the Fy94 Timber Sales Program, Oconee Ranger District, Greene and Jones County, Georgia

Abstract

This report covers cultural/heritage resource surveys on approximately 609 acres on planned timber sales on the Oconee National Forest in Greene and Jones Counties, Georgia. These projects by compartments are listed in Table 2. Nine new sites were found and two fGA08-1461 and GA08-1574) are considered potentially eligible for the National Register of Historic Places. Six isolated finds were located as well. These surveys and sites found add to our accumulated data base on past land use, site location, and occupation in the Georgia piedmont. This cultural/heritage resources survey report complies with the provisions of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 as amended, and the Programmatic Agreement between the USDA Forest Service Southern Region, Advisory Council, and the Georgia State Historic Preservation Officer. The data retrieved in the process of this report are on file in the Forest Supervisor's Office, Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests, 508 Oak Street, Gainesville, Georgia.
