Abstract

An intensive survey for cultural resources was conducted prior to the building of Oglethorpe Power Corporation's proposed 5.5 acre Airline 115/46 kV substation in Hart County, Georgia. The property was formerly an agricultural field and is now a cattle pasture. The survey located one prehistoric artifact in a shovel test and recorded a rock wall terrace and a dilapidated structure immediately outside of the tract. The single artifact does not represent an archeological site and the structure and rock wall terrace indicate recent farming activity. We recommend that no further work is necessary. Construction should not affect any significant cultural resources and should be allowed to proceed.
