Abstract

During August and October of 1996 and May 1999, staff archaeologists from the Georgia Department of Transportation conducted intensive archaeological testing at site 9PU51, Tenant House # 2, on the Bembry Farm Complex in Pulaski County, Georgia. The tenant house was previously recommended as eligible for the National Register of Historic Places under Criterion C in the area of architecture and was determined to be a contributing element to the National Register eligibility of the Bembry Farm Complex. This was concurred with by the Georgia State Historic Preservation Officer. The purpose of the intensive testing was to determine if the property surrounding the tenant house might also be considered eligible for the National Register of Historic Places under Criterion D, for important information it might contain about early twentieth century lifeways. Results of the intensive testing indicate that the archaeological component of Tenant House # 2, site 9PU5 1, is not eligible for the National Register of Historic Places under Criterion D because it no longer contains adequate information important to our understanding of early twentieth century lifeways.
