Abstract

Bethelview Road extends between the Atlanta Highway/SR 9 intersection and the Canton Highway/SR 20 intersection in Forsyth County. The proposed widening along the 6.11 mile, 150' wide right-of-way will change the typical section from 2-lane rural to 4-lane urban with 20' medians, curbs and gutters. A Bethelview Road Phase I Archaeological Survey was authorized by Moreland Altobelli Associates, Inc. on October 13, 1999. The maps were made available on November 17, 1999. The survey included a site files search and an archaeological field survey of the project area. Archival sources did not show any cultural resources within the project area proper, however, three prehistoric sites are in the vicinity of the roadway. Field survey revealed the presence of three archaeological sites and six isolated finds. The fieldwork was conducted during late November to early December 1999, with supplemental fieldwork in January 2000.
