Abstract

This report represents an addendum to the previous survey of proposed improvements to Sardis Church Road in Bibb County, Georgia, conducted by Southeastern Archeological Services in 1999, and reported by Pluckhahn (1999). The additional survey was required for the reconfiguration of a 2.3 km (1.4 mi) segment of the proposed road, and for the addition of 1.5 km (0.9 mi) of new right-of-way for proposed improvements to the intersections of Sardis Church Road with Nowell Road and Avondale Mill Road with U.S. 129/S.R. 247. The survey resulted in the identification of two archeological sites and two artifact occurrences (Table 1). The two sites each consist of low density prehistoric lithic scatters. Site 9BI126 also includes two isolated historic artifacts. One of the occurrences consists of an isolated prehistoric ceramic (Occurrence 2), and the other of two fragments of debitage (Occurrence 1). We recommend that all of the cultural resources are ineligible to the National Register, due to the sparseness of the deposits and/or the loss of integrity. Table 1. Management Summary Table.
