Abstract

New South Associates conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of the proposed eastern bypass of the city of Winder in Barrow County Georgia. The study corridor encompassed 5.5 miles of 250 to 300 feet of right-of-way along existing roads and new location. The study area was almost uniformly eroded with subsoil apparent at the surface or in shovel tests. The survey did not locate any archaeological sites. Two isolated finds were discovered. These included a quartz biface and an aqua glass bottle base. The survey also located a field clearing rock pile defining a terrace edge. No further archaeological study of these finds or of the corridor as a whole is recommended.
