Abstract

On April 21, 2000, Brockington and Associates, Inc., conducted an archaeological resources survey for the proposed widening of the Ellington Road intersection in Rockdale County, Georgia. This work was completed under contract with Moore Bass Consulting. The project area is located south of Interstate 20 on Salem Road at its intersection with Ellington Road. The proposed corridor widening extends roughly 150 m (495 feet) in each direction from the midpoint of the intersection. Archaeological survey included archival research and field investigations. No previously recorded archaeological sites are located within a 0.5 mile radius of the proposed area of improvements. Archaeological field work consisted of systematic surface and subsurface coverage of the project area. Project area soils exhibit extensive erosion and disturbance due to modern development. Large portions of the project area are covered with roadways, parking lots, and modern buildings and structures. Archaeological field survey identified no archaeological resources within the project area, therefore no additional archaeological resource investigations are recommended.
