Abstract

On September 13, 2000, Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc., conducted a Phase I archeological survey of proposed improvements to the intersection of MacLand and Old Lost Mountain Roads in Cobb County, Georgia. The work was conducted for Cobb County and the Georgia Department of Transportation, through the engineering firm of Post, Buckley, Schuh, and Jernigan, Inc. The proposed construction easements will extend a maximum of 7.6 m (25 ft) from the existing right-of-way. Three archeological sites were recorded in the project area. Two of these sites (9C0559 and 9C0560) are prehistoric lithic scatters, and the third (9C0561) is a twentieth century historic artifact scatter. All three sites are recommended ineligible to the National Register due to the sparsity of the deposits, the degree of disturbance they have incurred, and their inability to produce any important, new information through additional archeological investigation. Thus, the proposed undertaking will not adversely affect any significant archeological sites.
