Abstract

The report details New South Associates' archaeological survey of a proposed highway-widening project along Highway US 84/SR 38 in August and September of 2000. The survey covered approximately 24 miles (38.4 km) between the northeastern edge of Homerville (Clinch County) and the southwest edge of Waycross (Ware County). Four sites (i.e., 9Ci165, 9Ci166, 9We107, and 9We108) and one isolated find (i.e., IF1) were identified during the archaeological survey. According to the artifacts recovered and county tax records consulted, the sites were occupied at the turn of the twentieth century. Considering that the four sites and the isolated find located along the proposed highway do not exhibit any research potential, it is recommended that the sites and the isolated find are not eligible to the National Register of Historic Places.
