Abstract

In October of 2000, Southeastern Archeological Services conducted an archeological survey of a 2.6 km (1.6 mi) stretch of Flowing Wells Road on the outskirts of the city of Augusta in Columbia County, Georgia, for the Georgia Department of Transportation. The proposed improvements, which consist of widening the road from the existing two lanes to a four lane, divided highway, begin at the I-20/Wheeler Road interchange and continue north to the intersection at Washington Road (State Road 104). The project corridor is heavily developed for residences, businesses, and schools. No archeological resources were identified in the area of potential effect. Thus, the proposed undertaking will have no effect to any archeological sites.
