Abstract

Between April 16 and April 23, 2002, Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. (SAS) surveyed 28 intersections along US Highway 411State Route 7 in Spalding and Henry Counties, between Griffin and Lovejoy, Georgia (Figure 1). The survey was undertaken to ensure that the Georgia Department of Transportation is in compliance with federal regulations concerning the disposition and protection of significant cultural resources (National Historic Preservation Act of 1966--as amended). The goal of the survey was to locate, describe and evaluate the significance of archeological sites within the areas of potential effect for the 28 intersections. All intersections will be improved by the addition or expansion of right turn lanes or the addition of median cross-over lanes. No archeological sites were discovered, and we recommend that no further archeological study is needed at any of these intersections.
