Abstract

The survey described here was designed to locate and evaluate archeological sites in the area of potential effect for a bridge replacement project proposed by the Georgia Department of Transportation on State Route 11 over Marbury Creek, about 2 km south of Winder in Barrow County, Georgia. Archival research showed no known sites in the immediate area, nor the likelihood of historic period structures or sites. The survey, conducted in September of 2002, relied on visual inspection and the excavation of 19 shovel tests. No archeological sites were encountered, but one isolated artifact (Occurrence 1) was located. It is not eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. We conclude that the proposed bridge replacement project will cause no adverse effects to significant archeological resources.
