Abstract

The proposed project area is the south side of Mt. Vernon Highway, from Powers Ferry Road to Roswell Road. The project would consist of the construction of a five-foot wide concrete sidewalk within existing shoulders along the south side of Mt. Vernon Highway from Powers Ferry Road to Lake Forrest Drive, which is south of Roswell Road. The existing typical section consists of 30" curb and gutter with shoulder widths of 12' wide or greater from Powers Ferry Road to Lake Forrest Drive. Due to the presence of a cemetery on both sides of Mt. Vernon Highway just north of Lake Forrest Drive, no sidewalk would be constructed north of Lake Forrest Drive. The existing bridge over 1-285 has five-foot wide sidewalks and handrails on both sides. Gravity-type retaining walls may be required at various locations to minimize impacts to adjacent properties. Existing signalized intersections would be upgraded as needed to accommodate pedestrian signalization.
