The project would consist of the installation of a communication backbone of fiber optic cable. Closed Circuit Television Cameras would be installed at specified locations for traffic surveillance and connected by fiber optic cable with the Cobb County TCC. Existing Changeable Message Signs (CMS) and existing traffic signal controllers would also be connected by fiber optic cable with the Cobb County TCC. The CMS and CCTV connected in the project would be integrated into the regional NaviGAtor. Eight corridors in Cobb County would be included in the construction of fiber optic cable and interconnection of traffic signal controllers including: East-West Connector/Austell Road, Austell Road, Barrett Parkway Extension/Dallas Highway, Barrett Parkway/Piedmont Road, Atlanta Road, Hicks Road/Floyd Road, Powder Springs Road, and Roswell Road. A total of 43 miles of fiber optic cable would be installed plus 20 CCTV sites. The TCC would also be upgraded.
