Addendum to Phase I Archaeological Survey for the Widening of the 1-20/Alcovy Road Interchange, Newton County, Georgia Original Project Description: the proposed project consists of the widening of 1-20 from the CR 660/Alcovy Road interchange eastward to SR 142/Hazelbrand Road and the widening of CR 660/Alcovy Road from the existing four-lane section south of 1-20 to a future four-lane section south of SR 142/Hazelbrand Road in Newton County, Georgia. 1-20 is currently a four-lane highway (two lanes in each direction) separated by a 64-foot median with 4-foot paved inside shoulders and 10-foot paved outside shoulders. Following project implementation, 1-20 would be widened to six lanes (three lanes in each direction) with a 40-foot paved median with barrier, 14-foot outside shoulders (12 feet paved). The existing bridges over Alcovy Road would be replaced and the existing bridges over the CSX railroad would be widened. Alcovy Road also would be widened to a four-lane roadway with a 20-foot raised median, a 4-foot bike lane in each direction, urban shoulders and a 5-foot sidewalk. Traffic would be maintained during construction. The project has been revised to include a slight shift in the intersection of City Pond Road and Alcovy Road approximately 40 feet to the south. It will also include an approximately 200 foot extension along 1-20 at the western terminus of the proposed project to incorporate a drainage culvert. The section of the project area along Alcovy Road north of City Pond Road has been expanded. The maximum required right-of way has changed from 112 feet to 176 feet.
