Abstract

New South Associates conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of the Durham street 0.25 mile corridor on May 17, 2005. The corridor was to be improved within a right-of-way of 60 feet. No previously recorded sites were located within the corridor. Survey of the corridor, accomplished through 30-meter interval shovel testing and inspection of exposed ground surface, located one previously unknown site, 90C304. The site consists of a brick pile and a few in-place bricks. Shovel testing did not locate any subsurface artifacts. The site does not appear to qualify for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places and no further archaeological study of the corridor is recommended.
