The project consists of improvements to 40 intersections in the Decatur and Avondale areas (Table 1, Figures 1 and 2). Depending on need and setting, improvements to each intersection could include some or all of the following: upgrade existing traffic signal installations with new equipment to include controllers, cabinets, mast arms, and signal heads; upgrade to ADA specifications; upgrade communications connections between intersections to fiber optics (above ground). In addition, every effort will be made to effect improvements without acquiring additional right of way. At this time, no need for additional right of way is anticipated.
