Abstract

Project consists of constructing a new two-lane bridge to the north of the existing bridge. Traffic will be maintained on the existing bridge during construction. The project crosses a portion of Lake Allatoona (formerly the Etowah River). The bulk of the project area is within Corps of Engineers land (Mobile District) and was archaeologically surveyed in the mid-1980s (Ledbetter et al. 1987). The Corps confirmed by telephone (via Ernie Seckinger in 2005 and Dottie Gibbens in 2003) that the Corps land has been adequately surveyed and that the GaSHPO concurred with the finding of no sites in the present project area. The Corps does not have a concurrence letter. In August 2005, the portion of the project area outside Corps land was surveyed. All area of potential effect for the current design has now been surveyed.
