Intensive archaeological survey was conducted by Southern Research in 1998 and 1999 in land management compartment 0-02, which is located in Muscogee County, Georgia. This work was done for the U.S. Army Infantry Center, Directorate of Public Works, Environmental Division, Fort Benning Military Reservation, in compliance with Section 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966. Compartment 0-02 is comprised of 517 acres (209 ha), which includes 116 acres that were previously surveyed for archaeological resources. A total of 401 acres (162 ha) was examined in the present study. A total of 27 archaeological loci (11 sites and 16 isolated finds) was identified in Compartment 0-02. Five sites in this compartment may be eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Protective measures are recommended for these potentially eligible sites.
