Abstract

Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc. conducted a cultural resources survey of approximately 5 ha (12 ac) in Johnson County, Georgia. The project included a standing structure survey of the area immediately surrounding the survey tract. The tract is located in the southeastern corner of a proposed 40-ha (100-ac) industrial park located southeast of Wrightsville. The surveyed tract consisted of a fallow field that offered approximately 60 percent surface exposure. The archeological survey used surface and subsurface investigation to identify archeological resources. Two archeological sites, 9JH 18 and 9JH 19, were recorded. 9JH 18 is a prehistoric site that produced diagnostic artifacts from the Early Archaic and Mississippian periods. Archeological testing determined that this site lacks meaningful research potential. Therefore the site is considered to be ineligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. 9JH 19 consists of the remnants of a late nineteenth to twentieth century house that was razed in the past couple of years. It is considered to be too recent to have any archeological significance. The architectural survey determined that no historic structures are within view of the proposed project. Thus, no significant cultural resources will be affected by the proposed undertaking.
