Abstract

On December 20 and 21, 2005, Environmental Services, Inc. (ESI) performed an intensive cultural resource assessment survey of two parcels along Millikin Bay in Wayne County, Georgia, on behalf of the City of Jesup. One parcel is a corridor intended for a boardwalk and the other is a 7.239 acre tract slated for a recreational park. The goal of the survey was to locate, identify, delineate, and evaluate all cultural resources within the two parcels, including prehistoric and historic archaeological sites, as well as historic structures. The cultural resource assessment survey included a pedestrian inspection combined with systematic shovel testing at 30 meter intervals in medium-to-high probability areas and at 90 meter intervals in low probability areas. As a result of the survey, no archaeological sites, historic structures, or subsurface isolated artifacts were encountered. No further archaeological investigation is recommended for these two parcels.
