Abstract

This is a GDOT report short form for a phase I intensive archaeological survey of approximately 3,400 linear feet of Piedmont Avenue, between the Georgia State University MARTA station (south of Decatur Street) and John Wesley Dobbs Avenue. The proposed pedestrian improvements will be located within the existing right-of-way, and the area effected was investigated with shovel test pits excavated at a 30 meter (100 feet) interval. The area of potential effect (APE) consists of both sides of Piedmont Avenue, between the Georgia State University MARTA station (south of Decatur Street) and John Wesley Dobbs Avenue. The the total length of the corridor is 3,400 linear feet, and existing right-of-way is currently 60 feet and will not change due to streetscape improvements. The APE investigated was within the existing 60 feet of right-of-way.
