Archaeological Reassessment of Project EDS-441(23), Baldwin County

This is an Archaeological Reassessment of Project EDS-441(23), Baldwin County. EDS-441(23) would consist of the construction of a new location roadway beginning 800 feet south of the US 441/SR 22 intersection. The new location would proceed northward where it would tie into US 441 just north of Pearl Drive north of the city of Milledgeville. This project was originally surveyed by Teresa Lotti in 2003 (HPD# HP030911-002). The former proposed alignment followed a similar route east of the current proposed segment. The required right-of-way for the new location segment is 300 feet. The total length of the project is approximately 1.75 miles. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted along the entire length of the project corridor. An archaeological survey (Level II) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Division Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of work of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. No existing or eligible National Register resources were located within the project's area of potential environmental effect. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
