Abstract

Between October 25 and 27, 2005, New South Associates conducted a Phase I Archaeological Survey of the proposed interchange at I-95 and CR 138 (Horse Stamp Church Road) in Camden County, Georgia. Survey areas include new alignment to relocate the intersection of Spring Bluff Road to an area west of the existing intersection. The APE also includes intersection improvements for Horseshoe Cove, and a corridor parallel to the existing Horse Stamp Church Road. Additionally, a new interchange and exit will be constructed to provide access to and from Interstate 95 north and south. One new archaeological site, the Horse Stamp Church Cemetery, 9CM289 was recorded during this survey. The site is recommended as archaeologically ineligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. Assessment was based on Criterion D as established in 36CFR Part 60, National Register of Historic Places and 36CFR Part 800, Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, Protection of Historic and Cultural Properties.
