Abstract

Addendum to Archeological Survey and Site Testing of the Proposed U.S. Highway 27/Interstate 85 Connector in Troup County, Georgia. Redesign (since Southeastern's original report): GDOT proposes to construct 5.78 miles of new roadway to serve as a connector between US 27 and I-85 in Troup County, GA. GDOT also proposes to construct a 0.87 mile interchange between I-185 and I-85. The connector would begin at US 27, where project EDS-27 (114), P.I. # 362910 begins, and would continue east on new location. The new roadway is proposed to include at-grade intersections at Young's Mill Road, Hammett Road, and Whitfield Road. The plan for the connector also includes a frontage road between US 29 and the I-85/I-185 interchange, on the south side of the new roadway, which would connect to Mt. Zion Church Road. A bridge overpass is proposed at the intersection with Hammett Road, and an extension is planned for the bridge spanning US 29 and the Seaboard Railroad to allow the frontage road to pass underneath. The I-85/I-185 interchange, Project NH-IM-85-1 (160), includes ramps connecting I-185 southbound to I-85 north and southbound, as well as I-185 northbound to I-85 north and southbound. Two ramps included in the proposed interchange would span Shoal Creek on the west side of I-85. EPEI surveyed a total of 4 new corridors that were not included in the original survey. The APE for the project includes everything within the proposed construction project length and within the maximum extent of the existing and required right-of-way as described above. There were no sites recorded within a 1-km radius of the project area.
