Abstract

TRC was contracted by TVA to conduct a cultural resources survey of a proposed 7.6-mile 161-kV transmission line and access roads in Murray County, Georgia, which will proceed from the proposed West Eton switching station, north to the Gregory's Mill substation. After the original corridor was surveyed, two sections of alternate reroute corridor totaling approximately 1.75 miles were surveyed as well. The cultural resource survey involved a historic architectural survey and an archaeological survey. The new transmission line will be constructed on a new 100-foot-wide right-of-way. The transmission line will consist of mostly steel poles, though some H-frame structures will be needed in areas with rough terrain. In addition to the 9.35 miles of transmission line corridor surveyed, approximately 3.28 miles of access roads connected to the new right-of-way were surveyed for archaeological resources.
