Abstract

Management Summary- TRC was contracted by TVA to conduct a cultural resources survey of a proposed 15.5 mile 230/115-kV transmission line in Gordon and Whitfield counties, Georgia, which will proceed from the Center Point Substation south of Dalton to a future substation site east of Calhoun. Approximately 12.2 miles of new right-of-way will be required and 3.3 miles of existing vacant right-of-way will be used. The 3.3 miles of vacant right-of-way is on the southern end of the project and parallels an existing transmission line. The new transmission line will be constructed on a new 100-foot-wide right-of-way using double circuit steel pole structures. A large portion of the corridor follows the Conasauga and Coosawattee River valleys. In addition to the 15.5 miles of transmission line corridor surveyed, approximately 15.6 miles associated with 22 access roads connected to the new right-of-way was surveyed. Four additional access roads associated with the existing vacant right-of-way were surveyed, totaling 1.6 miles. Four transmission line reroutes also were surveyed, totaling 2.5 miles.
