Abstract

GDOT Archaeological Report Short Form for Negative Findings. Additional Phase I Archaeological Study of Proposed Intersection Improvements at SR 54 and Report Title Stewart and Reese Roads, Coweta County, Georgia. Prime Consultant: Applied Technology and Management Project Location and Area of Potential Effect County(ies):Coweta USGS Quadrangle(s) : 7.5 minute Sharpsburg (GA) Project Description: Intersection improvements include the widening and realignment of Reese and Stewart Roads at their intersection with SR 54. The project area was surveyed by New South Associates in 2002. The current survey includes expansion of the corridor outside the initial survey area (Figure 1). Area of Potential Effect: The project included six areas around the subject intersection (Figure 2). Two areas were located within the current right-of-way of Stewart Road and SR 54. The Stewart Road area (Survey Area A), west of the intersection, measured approximately 103 x 25 feet, while the SR 54 section (Survey Area B) measured approximately 70 x 25 feet and was located north of the intersection. Two additional areas were located to the east and west of the southern portion of SR 54. The western portion (Survey Area C) measured approximately 314 x 10 feet, and the eastern portion (Survey Area C) measured approximately 300 x 10 feet. Two additional survey areas included a strip southwest of the intersection (Survey Area D) measuring approximately 70 x 8 feet and a longer area south of Reese Road (Survey Area E) measuring 370 x 10 feet.
