Abstract

GDOT Archaeological Report Short Form for Negative Findings: Archeological Assessment of Proposed Improvements to the I-285/S. Cobb Drive (SR 280) Report Title Interchange; Prime Consultant: Post, Buckley, Schuh and Jernigan County(ies): Cobb; USGS Quadrangle(s): Northwest Atlanta Project Description: The project consists of the upgrading the 1-285 and South Cobb Drive interchange, including the removal of a raised median on South Cobb Drive, the increase of radii on the southbound on- and off-ramps, and widening the northbound on-ramp. The project begins at the southbound exit ramp and end at the northbound 1-285 ramp. The proposed typical new section of the 1-285 northbound ramp will include two 12-foot travel lanes with a curb and gutter on the inside and a 14-foot paved shoulder on the outside bordered by a concrete side barrier. Area of Potential Effect: The Area of Potential Effect consists of the project described above. Total length of the South Cobb Drive portion is about 600 feet, and approximately 1000 feet along the on- and off-ramps. All work will take place within the existing rights-of-way.
