Abstract

Greenhouse CONSULTANTS incorporated was retained by G. Ben Turnipseed Engineers on behalf of the city of Twin City, Georgia to undertake a Phase I archaeological survey of the proposed Sewerage System Improvements project area. The Project area is located in Emanuel County Georgia, west of the town limits of Twin City (Figure 1). The project tract includes a small wooded area along Antioch Road that forms its western boundary, and extends west to include cultivated fields. The field survey was conducted July 19 and 20, 2006 under direction of senior staff archaeologist George Price, RPA, who served as project Principal Investigator and author. The purpose of this Phase I investigation was to ascertain the presence or absence of cultural resources within the project area. One previously unrecorded archaeological site was documented as result of this survey. In our opinion this site contains no research potential beyond what may be gained from existing historic documents, and oral history; thus, for these reasons we do not recommend the site as potentially eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).
