Abstract

During September 2005, May and September 2006, and February 2007, Edwards-Pitman Environmental, Inc. (EPEI) conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of proposed locations for the Noonday Creek Multi-Use Trail and associated parking area. For management purposes, the proposed trail corridor has been separated into two phases. The first phase of the proposed trail contains two alternatives; both alternatives were surveyed and the results are described in this report. Phase 2 of the proposed trail consists of the same alignment for both alternatives. Additionally, a new parking area is proposed to accommodate increased parking needs caused by the trail, and, four alternatives were examined during the current investigation. The total trail length is approximately six miles. The combined surveyed acreage of the four alternative parking areas is approximately seven acres. The goal of the survey was to locate and evaluate archaeological sites within the Area of Potential Effect (APE) of the proposed undertaking, so that potential effects to any resources identified could be evaluated in accordance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The project was conducted under a contract with Florence & Hutcheson, Inc.
