Abstract

Original: Construct an additional right turn lane on the 1-285 northbound off ramp. Add storage length to the 1-285 southbound off ramp right turn lane and the left turn lanes of both off ramps. Increase the radius of the right turn lane for the 1-285 northbound off ramp. Add concrete islands to 1-285 northbound off ramp and 1-285 southbound on ramp. Install crosswalks at both the 1-285 northbound and 1-285 southbound ramps, as well as at Margarette Drive. Improve signal timing with coordination of signals at ramp interchanges and Margarette Drive. Install sidewalk on the south side of Covington Highway west of the interchange and on both sides of Covington Highway east of the interchange. Overlay Covington Highway and replace curb and gutter. Add an additional lane in the median on Covington Highway to increase the storage area for left turn lanes onto 1-285. The existing pavement sections of the 1-285 on and off ramps will be removed and reconstructed with full depth concrete pavement. Portions of the existing asphalt pavement on Covington Highway to the east and west of the 1-285 overpass will be removed-and reconstructed with full depth concrete pavement. The project would require approximately 0.9 acre of additional right-of-way and 0.88 acre of temporary easement. Total project length is approximately 5,827 feet (1.1 miles). Project Changes: Due to more detailed design plans, the following changes have been made: The project limits have been extended approximately 40 feet along the southern portion of the northbound 1-285 off ramp. Total project length has increased to approximately 5,867 feet (1.1 mile). In addition, the total amount of required right-of-way has increased. The proposed project would now require approximately 0.137 acre of right-of-way. Previously, the project required 0.9 acre of right-of-way. The amount of temporary easement would remain approximately 0.88 acre. Finally, the proposed project would now construct sidewalks along both sides of Covington Highway west of the 1-285 interchange.
