Abstract

This project consists of widening a 0.62 mile length of Old Hull Road and making safety and operational improvements at four intersections along a 0.96 mile length of Old Hull Road in northeast central Clarke County. Virtually all of the project area was archeologically surveyed in 2005. Since that time, minor changes in plans were made and now the project includes about 2,000 ft of Old Hull Road that was not surveyed in 2005. This new area, which is needed to create dedicated left turn lanes at two intersections (Athens Perimeter Highway and Athena Drive) is the subject of this report. The area of potential effect for the project is additional right-of-way along Old Hull Road at two intersections. At Athens Perimeter Highway, the project area extends about 1,400 ft along Old Hull Road, evenly split to the north and south of the intersection. Project width tapers from only existing right-of-way (about 60 ft) at the ends to as much as 80 ft near the intersection. Project length along Old Hull Road at Athena Drive is only about 600 ft, since the portion north of the intersection was surveyed in 2005. Here the project area tapers from existing, 60-ft wide right-of-way at the south end to about a 70-ft width near the intersection. Thus, at both intersections, the area of potential effect is a narrow (maximum 10 ft), tapering strip on both sides of Old Hull Road.
