Abstract

The proposed project would consist of resurfacing, milling, inlay, leveling, shoulder building, grading, excavating, removing, and disposing of excavated material (gravel, asphalt, concrete, etc.) to include compaction of sub-grade of SR 313 in Worth County, Georgia. The proposed project on SR 313 would begin at a point approximately 280 feet north of SR 520 (in the City of Sylvester) then continue northerly to an end point approximately 245 feet south of SR 32. In addition, Type D curb cut ramps would be installed at 4 intersection locations along the project route. All proposed construction would be restricted to within the SR 313 existing right-of-way; no required right-of-way or easements are needed for project implementation. An archaeological survey (Level I) was conducted in accordance with "GDOT/FHWA Cultural Resource Survey Guidelines" developed by the GDOT Staff Archaeologists in consultation with DNR Historic Preservation Section Staff and concurred in by the Federal Highway Administration and State Historic Preservation Officer. These guidelines provide general survey boundaries and methodological approaches to archaeological surveys based on the type/scope of proposed highway projects and are followed during the initial identification of archaeological resources. By agreement, because no archaeological resources were located within the project's area of potential effect, no signed concurrence from the State Historic Preservation Office is required. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon archaeological resources on or eligible for inclusion in the NRHP provided that the project conforms to that described above.
