Abstract

This report documents the results of investigation of ten sites in floodwater control Structures 17 and 19 on Garrett Creek, Carroll County, Georgia. The aim of the investigations was to recover data allowing formulation of recommendations for the sites in terms of their eligibility to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Nine of the ten sites are recommended to be ineligible for the NRHP. Site 571 is recommended as eligible for the NRHP and a mitigation plan is outlined. Data recovered at the ten sites documents prehistoric occupation of the area from the Early Archaic through the Woodland periods. All of the sites appear to have been occupied intermittently by small groups. Sites 558 and 571 seem to be located in optimal settings and yielded evidence of frequent reoccupation over a considerable span of time.
